Voyager - Shields Down / Enso - Tempo Records
Following predictably high-grade releases from fellow D&B veterans DJ Krust, DJ Trace and Source Direct, Tempo's SPEED series welcomes another legend who has been producing gems since the 1990s, Pete Parsons AKA Voyager. In keeping with his melodic and atmospheric approach - Parsons has long been considered one of the foremost exponents of 'intelligent D&B' - A-side 'Shields Down' wraps sparkling guitar motifs, dreamy pads and impassioned female vocal samples around a deep and weighty bassline and energetic jungle beats. 'Enso' is a more skittish but no less bass-heavy number that makes great use of a sped up 'Apache' break and drifting chords, while 'Still Waters' is a head-nodding slab of ultra-deep downtempo goodness.
