Soulphiction - Riot Party II - Musik Krause

Philpot co-founder Michael Baumann last appeared on Musik Krause in 2014 with the slightly overlooked Riot Party 12". Here, he presents a belated sequel, once again showcasing his deft touch and effortless soulfulness. Opener "Misty Roots" is typical of his trademark style, with loosely programmed beats, deep chords and dusty vocal samples combining on an off-kilter deep house treat. The dirt-encrusted sound is emphasized on the booming "Brick", in which booming drums are eventually joined by tipsy horn lines and dreamy, drawn-out chords. Finally, he goes deep into early morning territory with the surging drums, distorted bass, creepy held notes and sweaty build-ups of "Amerika".
