I first heard LCD Soundsystem cover this classic Detroit techno cut by Carl Craig under his Paperclip People guise way back in 2005. The band had just torn through an epic set at the El Rey theater and were closing out the night with a nice extended version of “Yeah.” Somewhere around the eight or nine minute mark, bassist Tyler Pope began jamming on the famous groove from “Throw.” Impressed at the little tribute, I gave a nudge to fellow Detroit native Scott Sterling. Then we watched in shock and awe as the band slowly, one-by-one, joined in, morphing “Yeah” into “Throw” seamlessly. By the time James Murphy grabbed the mic and declared in full falsetto “I wanna see your haaaaaaaaaaand!” we were basically shitting ourselves.
