J.C. - Calypso EP - A Harmless Deed

Fresh on the scene and already sitting pretty with releases for Deeply Rooted House and Greener, J.C. may be something of an unknown quantity but their approach to deep house comes on like someone of experience. "Acapulco" is a feisty jam that expertly weaves thick layers of arpeggio around a solid beat with a gently rising tone to the melodies that injects some much welcome psychedelia into proceedings. "Calypso" meanwhile gets into a more hypnotic frame of mind with some blissed-out pads lingering over an acidic bassline that punches softly. If you were going to call on one man to take that approach and make it even softer, it would be Keith Worthy, who delivers a masterful version true to his deeper-than-thou style.
