Originally from South Africa, the local viticulture of the time did not leave him with an imperishable memory, and exile was necessary. He ended up in Calce, first at the Gauby estate, then at home, modestly, on the hill. Today, the Matassa Estate is still composed of small plots of very old vines (carignan, grenache, maccabeu, muscats...) surrounded by scrubland. 15 hectares are cultivated using biodynamic practices.
