Pigeonholing Russian producer VTGNIKE is tricky, to say the least. Fearlessly experimental, but with an eye on the dancefloor, his fascinating productions join the dots between a myriad of styles, mixing recording techniques (field recordings, live jams, analogue and digital instruments) to create fascinating mood pieces that are never less than thrillingly atmospheric. Those who've yet to fall in love with his distinct style would be well advised to check out this full-length for Nicholas Jaar's Other People imprint. Tactile, loose and evocative, highlights include a delicious tribute to Shangan electro ("Panarama Bar Shitt"), an ultra-deep D&B excursion ("Hi Fashion") and an effortlessly soulful and bluesy trip into organic techno territory ("Zarubezh"). It is, though, all good.
