This release marks the beginning of a fruitful and exciting new partnership between secretsundaze’s James Priestley & Marco Antonio Spaventi. The product of numerous late night Amsterdam studio sessions, Baia 2012 fuses 128 BPM house and techno with elements of UK bass, while taking cues from Cajmere and Chicago.

'Baia 2012' refers to the late 70s Cosmic scene in and around Rimini, particularly Baia Degli Angeli where Daniele Baldelli was resident. At the time, a patchwork of styles was being presented in a wild but coherent way. This unusual and organic sounding offering is backed by a Fela Kuti percussion loop, a massive bassline from a Prophet 5 synthesizer, original drum machine work, vintage synths and varied jazz riff samples. An unexpected Larry Heard inspired breakdown and searing sax line steps it up a notch and takes the track to a whole new level. If the Baia scene were still in full swing, this production would be the perfect audio representation of its evolution.

On remix duty is California-born house and techno producer Aybee (Deepblak). Known for his deep spirituality and otherworldliness, and his releases on Prescription, Underground Quality, Future Vision, and his own Deepblak label, these remixes are a rarity. He offers up two versions, one stripped back and tooly, and one fluid with trademark pads and hypnotic repetitive modest single note synth stabs. His remix last year for label partner Ethyl (& Huxley) on Tsuba was one of the anthems at 10 Years of secretsundaze played by residents James & Giles.

Wide DJ support for the release has come from Deetron, Ben UFO, Tama Sumo, Prins Thomas, Will Saul, Brawther, Craig Richards, Todd Terje, Benji B, Nicholas, Giles Smith, Vince Watson, Anthony Collins, Roland Appel, Philip Sherburne, Jonas Kopp, Catz 'N Dogz and Funk D'Void.

This is secretsundaze resident James Priestley’s third original production, with no releases since 2009. Needless to say, he's back with a bang and a new lease of life!

For the last few years, Marco Antonio Spaventi has been active as both producer and sound engineer on the Amsterdam scene. His releases as Ma Spaventi and as part of the R-A-G crew on the Dutch label M>O>S Deep prove that he's a talent to keep an eye on.
