Deadbeat - Primordia LP - BLKRTZ

When Primordia first dropped back in 2001, Montreal-based dub techno adventurer Deadbeat was still a relatively unknown name. In the years since, his reputation has risen thanks to a series of sparse, dubby, crackly sets of Scape and Wagon Repair. Listening again after 13 years, Primordia remains an impressive set. Decidedly minimal in outlook, with dub effects and textures wrapped around both 4/4 and steppy rhythms, it shows Deadbeat at his inventive and atmospheric best. If you missed it first time around, it's worth picking up - not least because it's a largely unheralded classic of the genre.
